Product Documentation for an E-distributor of specialty chemicalsTHE CUSTOMER An e-distributor of Fine, Specialty and Semi-Commodity chemicals, providing a faster, easier and more personalized service to its customers than traditional distributors, using proven internet-enabled technologies.
THEIR NEED The customer operated by using various best-of-breed products that took care of their supply chain, inventory and other business needs. In order to obtain a balance of functionality, speed and cost to fit their Internet focus and start-up financing, the customer had selected different vendors – each of whom supplied a piece of the whole system comprising both forward and backward-facing applications. The various products used included Interworld, Onyx, Great Plains, and Yantra and they were all integrated together using BizTalk. Now, any activity taken up by the customer could involve one or more (or all) of the best-of-breed products used, as defined by the activity workflow. For example, an Order taken involved Onyx, Great Plains and the customer’s Ecommerce engine. The customer wanted this interaction between various systems and the workflow followed to be documented clearly. This would work both as a training manual for new development resources added to the engineering team and for analysis and decisionmaking by the business team.
OUR DEED Aspire created business process documents that included different workflows, interactions between various products, and the interdependencies between products. The documentation covered all the system activities from search and ordering to delivery and billing, and hence enabled all the stakeholders to have clear visibility on the customer’s entire e-distribution system.
