Innovation to take India forward
Gowri Shankar Subramanian talks to students of Loyola College at Cyber Sting '05

Chennai, Decemeber 16, 2005: Gowri Shankar Subramanian, Chief Executive Officer of Aspire Systems, was invited to be the Chief Guest to address the students and participants of the inter-collegiate IT competition, Cyber Sting '05, organised by the Department of Computer Science of Loyola College, Chennai.

Speaking to the students at the inaugural address, Mr. Gowri Shankar Subramanian said, “An analysis of the Indian IT Industry will reveal that the cost advantages that India offers have played a vital role in bringing it so far. While tapping cost differentials is a great way to build a business, it is not sustainable in the long-run, as cost advantages diminish over time. Innovation and value creation are the only drivers of long-term success and the key to taking India forward”.

He advised the students to 'aspire to be job creators rather than job seekers' and told them that college education should be viewed as a stepping stone to an entrepreneurial career. Citing entrepreneurs such as Larry Ellison and Michael Dell, he said that although these men did not even complete their education, they created new industries where none existed before. "Imagine innovating a machine that will help the millions of rural people in India learn English. This will help people take up jobs in the rapidly expanding services economy of India, where knowledge of English is a pre-requisite. The potential of such an invention to transform India would be enormous", he said.

Cyber Sting '05 had a number of competitions on the first day like 'X-Terminator' - a debugging competition using C and C++, ‘AD-FZ' - a written test, 'Netcraft' - a web designing contest using Dream Weaver and Flash, K-Wizard - a quiz, and Survivor, a ship-wreck contest.

On the second day, the competitions were 'Hot Seat' - an interview by a human resource professional, Master Blaster, Potpourri, Concept Art, Logo Design and 'Cold War’ to name a few
