THE HINDU is out to help you get your first job. If you are looking for employment in sectors such as IT, ITES, BPOs, Manufacturing, Engineering, Insurance, Logistics, Services, then head to MRC Centre, Santhome from October 15 to 17. Announcing details of the job fair in the city at a press conference, V. Kalidas, Chief Advertising Manager, The Hindu, said it would have three components — interviews and recruitment, employability seminars and an industry interface.

Promising a comfortable experience for candidates, Mr. Kalidas said aspirants must take a couple of online psychometric tests and fill up their resumes by logging on to www.hinduonnet.com or tmifirst.com. "This way, recruiters at the fair can access the candidate's profile at the click or a button," he said. Mr. Kalidas said the fair was specially targeted at fresh graduates, postgraduates and professionals with up to five years of experience. Several top companies including Mahindra British Telecom, Covansys, Aspire Systems, L & T Baroda, RAMCO will participate, he said.

Tips for aspirants

The Hindu Opportunities Fair would also be an occasion for aspirants to listen to advice on writing resumes, handling interviews, choosing an employer and conducting oneself on the first days of a job. The fair will also conduct employability seminars offered on a first-come first-served basis.

For Human Resource executives, he said the fair would offer an industry interface by way of panel discussions on attracting and retaining talent, chaired by leading industry professionals.

According to K.S. Kumar, Head of Human Resources, e-Serve, a leading BPO, which is sponsoring the fair, an event of this kind would help "career seekers make informed choices." Plus, he said, it would help companies compete and give the candidate choices.

Bob Dexter of Reliance India Mobile gave details about the technology support for this fair. The company is offering one hour of free Internet access for aspirants at any Reliance Web World outlet in Chennai for registration.

Ram Kidambi of TMI First, a recruitment company, stressed that admission is only after online registration. He explained how the psychometric assessment would be valuable tools for companies to judge candidates on aptitudes and attitudes. Arunav Sinha of iSoft, a supplier of healthcare information systems, and T. Narasinga Rao of Vision Health Source, a major healthcare BPO service provider, said the companies were rapidly growing and were looking to harness talent from the Chennai market. The other sponsors include Maples ESM Technologies, Diviniti and Quality Inn Sabari.
